7 Signs You Need a Slow Morning Routine

For the last few years, the topic of morning routines has been all over the internet. And in a world that glorifies productivity, hustle, and busy schedules it can be easy to fall into the trap of feeling like we need to do as much as we can in the morning. Get up at 5:00am, make a green juice, go to the gym or a workout class, and try to fit in hours’ worth of stuff in what was supposed to be a simple morning routine.

But luckily, many people are moving beyond this concept and embracing the beauty that is a gentle, calm, slow morning routine. It is not a lazy one, but rather one where you allow yourself time to gradually get up, go through your habits at your own pace, and simplify your routine to just a few of the most important habits you have.

Signs You Need a Slow Morning Routine

A slow morning routine can be a game-changer for our physical and mental well-being. Here are some signs that you need a slow morning routine:

1 You Always Wake Up Anxious or Stressed

This is probably the biggest and most common sign that you are in need of slowing down in the morning. Waking up already stressed or anxious is a sign of having a lot of stress in your life. But it can also be because your mornings are always so hectic and rushed and stressful. You are then anticipating it from the moment you open your eyes.

There is no better reason to start slowing down and simplifying your morning routine. To see if it helps with your stress and anxiety. You may notice this is exactly what you needed.

2 You Dread Getting Out of Bed

Another big sign of needing to adjust or reset your morning routine is when you dread getting out of bed altogether. This might not be just because of the rest of your day, like not wanting to go to work or having responsibilities you aren’t excited about. But really just having an overly chaotic morning. When you notice you just want to stay in bed and keep putting off starting your morning, it is a good sign that you need to make some changes.

3 Your Mornings Are Always Chaotic

Naturally, if you have chaotic mornings, you should be changing that. The challenge here is that people think this is normal. Everyone references being rushed every morning, making jokes about how nothing is ready, the kids never want to get dressed, you are always hustling. But this isn’t a good thing, and it doesn’t always have to be the case.

You can have a calmer morning by just adjusting your routine and schedule a little bit. No matter what your lifestyle is like, there are always changes that can be made.

4 You Have No Consistent Morning Routine

Some people claim they don’t have a morning routine, but what they really mean is that they don’t have a consistent morning routine. Your mornings are so varied and sporadic, that you tend to run around like a chicken with its head cut off, not really having a plan or any intentions in place.

What you need is consistency, and that is exactly what a slow morning can offer you. It tends to be much calmer and more relaxed, and includes far fewer habits to go through. Even if your routine just consists of taking your coffee on the patio before getting ready for work, that one little habit is something you can do every single morning. It creates the habit of consistency that you need.

5 You Feel Overwhelmed by Your To-Do List

If your to-do list feels never-ending and overwhelming, it’s a sign that you need to take a step back and prioritize self-care. A slow morning routine can help you start the day with a clear mind and a sense of purpose, which can make it easier to tackle your tasks with focus and intention.

6 You Feel Like You Have No Time to Yourself

If you feel like none of your time is spent alone or you never do anything just for you, you definitely need a slow morning routine. This creates the intention that you are doing something just for you, with no distractions and no responsibilities. It includes absolutely anything you want it to, even if it’s just reading in bed once a week when you don’t have to do anything else that morning.

7 You Feel Disconnected From Yourself

Lastly, if you feel like you’re constantly running on autopilot, it’s a sign that you need to slow down and reconnect with yourself. A slow morning routine can help you tune into your thoughts and feelings, and create a sense of mindfulness and presence that can carry you through the day.

In conclusion, a slow morning routine can be a powerful tool for improving your physical and mental health. If you’re experiencing any of these signs, it’s time to slow down, take some time for yourself, and create a morning routine that supports your well-being. Remember, self-care is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.
